The following guide provides steps on backing up your keybinds and game settings.
How to back up your custom bindings
The following guide offers steps to back up your custom bindings:
- First, locate where your bindings have been saved. Navigate to the following location: C:\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
- Please bear in mind that the AppData folder is hidden by default. To reveal this click on the View tab and ensure that the Hidden box is checked.
- Next, all you need to do is COPY the Bindings folder to a safe location of your preference.
- Start the game as usual and test whether your custom bindings are still intact and working as should be.
If your custom bindings are unfortunately wiped for any reason, you now have a copy of the custom file to restore them.
If you do need to utilise your backup file, it is easy to implement them back into the game. To do this:
- Take the backed up copy of your Bindings folder, as shown above.
- Navigate back to the binding’s location once again
- Paste the folder in order to overwrite the current bindings.
Once this is done, your custom bindings should be available to you in the game.
How to back up your game settings
Before major patches, we always advise making a backup of your current game settings.
The best way to do this is by copying the Frontier Developments folder and storing it in a safe location.
We also advise renaming the folder so that it is clear that it is a backup.
You can duplicate this folder by holding down the "Ctrl" key and dragging the folder to the same directory or a specific back up location. You can locate the Frontier Developments folder here: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\ Just drop the location link into your file explorer's search bar as shown below. "%USERNAME%" is a wildcard to account for usernames not being the same.
The AppData folder is hidden by default so you may need toggle the 'View Hidden' option in your Username folder first.
