How to link your Frontier Account to the platform on which you play Elite Dangerous

Note: Brand new Steam customers should be automatically linked during account creation. If you have not yet created an account, please follow the steps in this FAQ.

Additionally if you experience any issues linking via the following process, you can also link via https://www.frontierstore.net/

Step 1: Launch Elite Dangerous from your Steam library.

Step 2: Once the launcher loads, click the "Log In" button.

Step 3: Enter your Frontier account Email address and password and click "Log In" once more.

Step 4: Once logged in you'll be able to link your Frontier and Steam accounts. Click "Link Accounts".

Step 5: The launcher will automatically detect how you've launched the game and will link appropriately. You'll receive confirmation that the link has been made, and the launcher will display the account name set on your Frontier account as confirmation. Next, click "Log in with Steam".

Step 6: You should now be at the main menu, ready to play!

Note: Brand new Epic customers should be automatically linked during account creation. If you have not yet created an account, please follow the steps in this FAQ.

Note: Copies of Elite Dangerous purchased from the Epic Game Store MUST be run through the Epic launcher, as detailed in this FAQ. 

Step 1: Launch Elite Dangerous from your Steam library

Step 3: Enter your Frontier account Email address and password and click "Log In" once more.

Step 4: Once logged in you'll be able to link your Frontier and Epic accounts. Click "Link Accounts".

Step 5: The launcher will automatically detect how you've launched the game and will link appropriately. You'll receive confirmation that the link has been made, and the launcher will display the account name set on your Frontier account as confirmation. Next, click "Log in with Epic".

Step 6: You should now be at the main menu, ready to play!

1. Launch Elite Dangerous on your Xbox One
2. Choose the Xbox One account that you want to link
3. Confirm that you want to link your Xbox and Frontier store accounts and accept Terms & Conditions
4. Enter email and password for your Frontier store account
5. Confirm accounts are linked

You should receive an email to the email address on your Frontier account confirming that your account has been linked.

When first starting Elite Dangerous on PS4® you will be required to link your PSN account (here we use our FDEV account as an example) to a Frontier Account. This can be either a brand new account or an existing account.

Please note that this will not allow you to purchase items from the Frontier Store for PS4. All items purchased in the PC Frontier Store are for the PC version of the game only.

I DON'T HAVE AN EXISTING FRONTIER ACCOUNT; HOW DO I CREATE ONE?

If you don't have a Frontier Account already, please follow the steps below to create one.

1. Select CREATE NEW

2. Enter your email address and chosen password, select the appropriate checkboxes and click CREATE ACCOUNT 

3. Confirm that you wish to create and link this new account by clicking YES


4. A verification code will be emailed to you in an email titled 'Authenticate with Elite Dangerous'. Please enter this case-sensitive code into the VERIFICATION CODE box as shown below.

Note: This email is often filtered or sent to spam folders so be sure to check all locations for your verification code. You can get a new code by selecting RESEND CODE on your PS4®. Requesting a new code or entering an incorrect code will invalidate any previous validation codes.

5. You can now create your Commander! Please note, the email address used to create your Frontier Account can be used to log in on the  Frontier Support website, and on FrontierStore.net. and is your main point of contact should we ever need to get in touch with you.

I HAVE ALREADY CREATED A FRONTIER ACCOUNT; CAN I USE MY EXISTING ACCOUNT?

If you already have a Frontier Account, then you can use it instead as long as it doesn't already have a PlayStation®4 version of Elite Dangerous attached to it. You can register one version of each platform for Elite Dangerous to any Frontier Account at a time. Current platforms are PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC/Mac.

1. Select the LOG IN TO EXISTING button.

2. Enter the email address and password for your account. Accept the Terms and Conditions once viewed by selecting the VIEW EULA button. You can also opt-out of PlayStation®4-specific emails if you wish. Once completed, select the CONFIRM button to log in.

Note: If you have trouble remembering your password, you can select the FORGOTTEN PASSWORD? button which will open a web page to help you recover your account and create a new password.

3. A verification code will be emailed to you in an email titled 'Authenticate with Elite Dangerous'. Please enter the case-sensitive code into the VERIFICATION CODE box as shown below.

4. You can now create your brand new PlayStation®4 Commander!

WHEN I LINK MY ACCOUNT I SEE THE MESSAGE 'AN UNEXPECTED ERROR OCCURRED'.

If you see this message when creating a brand new Frontier Account it's often because your email address is already used for a Frontier Account. In this case, you can successfully link your account by following the LOG IN TO EXISTING process instead of creating a new account during the account linking process.

If you've tried linking an existing account and still see this error, please contact us by creating a ticket.

If you have purchased Elite Dangerous via Steam before 24th April 2019, please ensure that you have registered your Steam key first.

Any purchases made via steam after 24th April 2019 will be unable to generate a partner key for dedicated launching via Oculus Home, but will be able to experience Elite Dangerous in VR through Steam VR. 

To redeem an Oculus Home key for Elite Dangerous please follow these steps:

Log into the Frontier Store and select 'Account Dashboard'.



Click on ‘Partner Keys' then click ‘Claim a Key for Elite Dangerous (Oculus Rift)’


You can now add the key that the website shows to your Oculus Home account in the Oculus Home settings page.

You are now able to download and play the game via Oculus Home. If you already own the Horizons Season Pass, this will automatically be available when you log in to the game.

Please note: THESE KEYS DO NOT GRANT GAME ACCESS. To use these keys, you must already own a Frontier account and a copy of the game.
Please do not give your Oculus key away to a friend as they won’t be able to play without buying Elite Dangerous.
