Elite Dangerous Commander Guide

This guide is designed to help players of Elite Dangerous with various account-related issues. Whether you're switching from the legacy to live game clients, creating a second Commander on PC, understanding what an FID is, or changing your Commander name, this guide provides step-by-step instructions to resolve these issues.

Your FID is a unique value that helps Frontier Support identify the account you are contacting them about. You can find your FID in the bottom left-hand corner of the Elite Dangerous main menu after launching the game client. Please note that in some cases, particularly if you are using a TV, you may need to alter your aspect ratio before you are able to see the FID.

Looking to update your commander name?

We've now introduced the ability to do so - the cost to rename your Commander is 500 ARX and there is a seven day cool-down.

Which characters are supported for Commander names?

The following characters are supported for Commander Names. Characters not listed here may not appear correctly in-game if used.

• Standard alphanumeric characters: A-Z, 0-9
• Symbols: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + \ - . , / : ; < = > ? ¡ £ ¿ [ ]
• Accented characters (upper & lower case): Ä, Á, È, É, Ê, Ë, Í, Î, Ï, Ñ, Ö, Ó, Ô, Ú, Û, Ü, Œ
• Cyrillic (upper & lower case): Б, Г, Д, Ё, Ж, З, И, Й, К, Л, П, У, Ф, Ц, Ч, Ш, Щ, Ы, Э, Ю, Я 

To have more than one Commander in Elite Dangerous on PC, follow these steps:

• Create a new Frontier Store account with a different email address from your first account.
• Log into the new Frontier Store account and purchase the content you'd like to access.
• Use the Elite Dangerous launcher to log into the new account. If you are already logged in to the Elite Dangerous launcher, log out of your main account first via the Options menu.
